A commitment to an introduction is not a commitment to a placement.
Chamberlain's Practicum Commitment is real, and it asks less of you up front than most competing promises. It is also narrower than the name suggests, and the whole distinction sits in the second sentence of their own wording.
Their words, and where the sentence turns
This is the published commitment. Almost nobody reads as far as the turn before enrolling.
They will find one preceptor or site located within 100 miles and provide you with an available preceptor's contact information. You then connect with the preceptor to secure their commitment and submit your practicum application.Chamberlain University, Practicum Commitment
What Chamberlain commits to
Genuine, and better than being left alone.
- Finding one preceptor or site within 100 miles, or otherwise reachable
- Providing that preceptor's contact information
- Coaching from the Experiential Learning Team on approaching a site
- Templates and resources for making the approach well
What remains yours
This is where the promise stops.
- Making contact and persuading them to take you
- Securing the commitment, because a name is not a placement
- Submitting the application and clearing site onboarding
- Searching again if they decline, since one introduction is what was undertaken
How to make the commitment actually work for you
Treat it as a backstop you hope never to need rather than a service you are buying, and it becomes genuinely valuable.
- Start your own search at enrolment
- month one
- Every nurse who leaned on the commitment and started late tells the same story. Your own contacts convert far better than a cold introduction ever will.
- Decide your real radius early
- before you need it
- A hundred miles twice a week is roughly nine hours of driving. Work out honestly whether you could sustain that alongside a roster, while it is still abstract.
- Confirm your track is covered
- in writing
- Placement policies are scoped by specialisation at every one of these schools, and the excluded tracks are rarely advertised. Ask which list yours is on, first rather than last.
- Approach your own employer first
- the strongest card
- A site that already knows your work beats any introduction a university can make, and it is the one route no policy can take away from you.

- Whether your specialisation sits inside Chamberlain's commitment
- Realistic preceptor supply in your county and specialty
- How Chamberlain's promise compares with Walden's, Herzing's and Capella's for you
- A straight recommendation, including when that is a different school
