Transferring to Chamberlain from another nursing school

Transferring — the direct answer

Chamberlain grants up to 77 credits for prior learning to a licensed RN holding an associate degree or diploma. Credit from an unfinished programme elsewhere is assessed differently and far less predictably. In every case the number that matters is what clears against your transcript, which is free to find out and should be established before you apply.

Two very different situations

You finished an associate degree and hold a licence. This is the case the 77-credit grant is built around, and the completion route is designed for you.

You started a programme somewhere and stopped. Much less predictable. Credit is assessed course by course, and how much carries depends on where you studied, when, and how far you got.

What tends to be refused

  • Science coursework taken long ago — anatomy, physiology, microbiology, chemistry
  • Credit from an institution whose accreditation is not recognised, which is a hard stop
  • Nursing coursework from an unfinished programme, which is often treated cautiously
  • General education gaps a nursing programme never covered

How to protect yourself

Send complete transcripts for evaluation before applying, and ask for the outcome in writing: course by course, what was accepted, what was refused, what remains outstanding. "Most of it should be fine" is not something you can budget against, and it is the phrase people most often act on.

Why it is worth more than a scholarship

Every credit that fails to transfer is roughly $635 on the completion route, and enough of them adds a session with its own fees. A ten-credit shortfall exceeds $6,000 — larger than most scholarships on offer, and entirely knowable in advance.

Compare across schools while you are at it

Institutions differ substantially in how they treat the same transcript. If Chamberlain's grant comes back low, that is a reason to check what another school would do with it rather than a reason to accept the number.
